A High-Octane, realistic action packed thriller starring Vidyut Jamwal & Pooja Chopra in Commando.
Vidyut Jamwal, who made his debut in a negative character with FORCE, plays the conventional Hindi film hero and fights an army of baddies single-handedly. He plays a special-ops secret agent for the Indian Armed Services. During one of the missions the commando’s chopper is shot down & is now behind enemy-lines.
Karanvir Dogra (Vidyut Jamwal), a commando in the Indian Army, is on a helicopter when it crashes into the Chinese territory. The Chinese label him as an India spy and detain him for over a year. Diplomatic attempts from Indian side prove futile, and to that extant that our own minister insists on disowning him. Karanvir is persistently tortured by them, yet he manages to escape from the Chinese side and crosses into Himachal Pradesh in India.
From here on the Commando embarks on a survival mission battling physically challenging environments, gun totting enemies in foreign land & is en route to his base. The commando uses his intense training, well honed survival & combat skills against the enemy in the face of this extreme environment.
As he crosses into Punjab, he runs into Simrit (Pooja Chopra), who has left her house and she is on the run as she isn’t interested in marrying the local goon Amrit aka AK47’s (Jaideep Ahlawat). Amrit compels her parents to give her hand to him, which even them aren’t interested to do so.
Karanvir helps Simrit to escape from the clutches of Amrit’s henchmen. Here on begins the action sequences, in the process Karanvir invites the local goon’s ire. Karan bashes up the goons in style, and then he and Simrit escape into the jungles, as the rail and road routes are patrolled by the goons network.
Thus begins a cat and mouse game between Amrit and Karan in the deep forests, scenic valleys of the Himachal.
In the middle of the town square, Amrit openly challenges Karanvir to nab and bring him at the square in the local town. Karanvir accepts his challenge with self-belied and confidence.
Mercifully, there is no usage of computer graphics or any artificial techniques in action scenes. Congratulations to the director Dilip Ghosh who delivers what he had promised – never-witnessed-before action in the film, and he succeeds in it.
Amrit sends his men through all the possible routes of escape and all of them are given the thrashing of their life by Karan.
It is a story of escape, chase in the forests and action-confrontation by this one man army. While fighting out and defending themselves in the forest, Karan and Simrit develop love between them. This romantic track is subtly included in this must see action film.
Vidyut Jammwal is superb as the action hero. He needs to work hard in emotions (though not needed in this flick). Pooja Chopra is the perfect Punjabi Kudi, beautiful yet strong enough to take her own decisions and face the problems later on.
The only irritating thing in this otherwise passable film is the false eye makeup done by the baddie Jaideep Ahlawat. It is really irksome.
A special mention about the fight sequence toward the concluding moments – when Vidyut is attacked by a South African slayer at the behest of Amrit, the action depicted is so impressive that towards the end of that fight when Vidyut gets into his final grip which chokes the opponent to death. One could feel the welcome relief in the audience.
COMMANDO is worth a watch only for Vidyut who performs never-witnessed-before action sequences, hand-to-hand combat, mid-air splits and somersaults. There is no body double or any other stuntman performing his fight sequences. It is a high-voltage action fare and packed with some adrenaline-pumping stunts.
Its worth a single watch for Vidyut Jamwal’s action.
